Jack, RocketLab has a unique approach to the second stage of their rocket.
Instead of placing the stage on top, as everyone else does, they put it inside the fairing and suspend it from the top.
This has two advantages. As we know, metals are strong in tension rather than compression. You can crush a can, but you cannot tear it apart. This allows the second stage to have thinner and lighter walls, making it cheaper and more efficient.
Second, the fairing it attached to the first stage, and so comes back with it for easy reuse.
Very neat, but still, competing with SpaceX and the Starship steamroller, is going to be a tall order….
Very interesting point regarding the second stage J.K. The advancements that we are going to witness in space craft and the overall space industry will be remarkable. The ability to re-use a rocket has already 'changed the game'.
The fact that Rocket Lab already have a re-usable rocket and with the Neutron, are working on another for deep space missions, puts them in a terrific position to be an industry leader.
SpaceX are ahead on pretty much all metrics but there is room for more than one space company. Rocket Lab can certrainly cement themselves there.
For me, Rocket Lab is a long term hold and a great addition to the fund.
